Marble

Marble

Marble is a metamorphic rock, having been subject to tremendous heat and pressure to the point where various fossilized materials, along with the original limestone and sundry minerals, have become re-crystallized. This process changes the rock from limestone to what we would recognize as marble. This naturally decorative material is characterized by vein-like patterns which vary depending on which minerals, and which quantities of those minerals, were present during the re-crystallization of the original limestone parent rock. These patterns offer the unique appearance known to many, as well as the rich range of colors that are some of the most vibrant available in any natural stone.

How marble tile is processed at the quarry

Marble tile as a building material has a long and famous career. It has been treasured for its refined, regal, decorative appearance.

It has been used in the courtyards of Caesar, in the palaces of Renaissance Europe, and many more precious places up to today. Marble tile has become more and more popular for use not only in residential applications, such as foyers, hallways, and in bathrooms, but also in commercial projects for similar uses. One of the great qualities marble can extend to a project is the aura of artistry and old-world elegance that only marble brings.

The reputation of marble tile has endured for thousands of years. One of the things for which marble is also known for is its role in the making of fine art. Marble is a versatile product. It can be used for a variety of purposes- from the making of artifacts, sculptures, & monuments to wall tiles in great constructions and floor tiles in homes. Due to the associations most people have with marble, no matter what application you have in mind, the result is bound to be viewed as an artistic statement, and one that is meant to last. Your marble tile floor will remain as a monument to itself, and a representation of good taste with which it is also associated.

Travertine

Travertine

It is sometimes known as travertine limestone, sometimes as travertine marble; these are the same stone, even though it is neither limestone nor marble.

Travertine is composed of a material called calcium carbonate which is produced from deposits built up over time from rivers, springs, and other subterranean water sources. The resultant stone is a smooth, porous, naturally decorative material which offers a soft cream hue, an overall old-world beauty, with a dense and durable surface.

The stone is characterized by pitted holes and troughs in its surface. Although these troughs occur naturally, they suggest to some eyes that considerable wear and tear has occurred over many years. Some installers use a grout to fill these holes, whereas others leave them open. Travertine can even be purchased "filled" or "unfilled." It can be effectively polished to a smooth, shiny finish and comes in a variety of colors from grey to coral-red.

Travertine is one of the most frequently used natural stones in modern architecture, and is commonly seen as facade material, wall cladding, and flooring, used for paving patios and garden paths. It is most commonly available in tile sizes for floor installations.

With its’ creamy richness, the porous decorative stone- travertine- was used as a building material during the rise of Western civilization in ancient Greece.

It can add some classical appeal to your interior or exterior space, whether in a residential setting or commercial application. Travertine may be the natural stone tile for you....

Travertine is most commonly used for outside building materials in Italy. Rich deposits of travertine are also common to Turkey and surrounding regions.
